My family recipe how to make Cream Toast aka "Custard Toast"
Apparently, this recipe was given to my mother from my grandmother and to my grandmother from her mother and...well, you get the gist XD It's been in our family for a long time. To put this recipe simply, it's delicious custard over toast 😛
The video I'm sharing with this recipe was created by me in 2010, following my mother's direction. However, I've found a much simpler way of doing this simple recipe. Directions are below.
Let's Get Started!!!
Ingredients:
1 Block of Butter
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/4 Cup Corn Starch
2 Cups Milk
1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
2 Eggs
------------------------
2-3 Pieces of toast (pancakes, waffles, etc.)
Directions:
1. Mix the Butter, Sugar, Corn Starch, Milk, and Vanilla in a pot over medium heat. When it reached a simmer, remove from heat.
2. Whisk the two eggs in a separate bowl.
3. Pour some of the cream from step 1 into the eggs, constantly whisking as you pour.
(You want to heat the eggs, not cook them, teehee)
4. Then place everything back into the pot, and heat over medium heat. Stir constantly until thickens, then remove from heat.
TIP: Do NOT boil!! In my video I made, it appears that I may have had heated it too much and thus created lumps. Keep temp low, and yours shouldn't curdle.
5. Wait a few minutes before pouring over your toast.
6. Bon appetite!!
